BONEYARD UNVEIL “HANGING TREE” AS NEW SINGLE FROM UPCOMING ALBUM BLACK STATIC, FEATURED IN METAL HAMMER

Edmonton’s Boneyard return with a new single that swings hard from the hip. “Hanging Tree” blends hard rock power, melodic metal hooks and an unexpected western aesthetic, giving listeners a cinematic ride loaded with groove, grit and a streak of black humor. It marks the third advance single from the band’s upcoming full length Black Static.

Recently featured in Metal Hammer, the track and interview spotlight the band’s evolving identity, inclusive spirit and genre-hybrid sound that has helped them carve out space in the Canadian rock and metal landscape since forming in 2015.

Frontwoman and guitarist Pamtera breaks down the creative spark behind the track. “We write heavy music, but we never take ourselves too seriously. Playing with contrasts and surprise is part of our personality. The western flavor came in naturally and it just made the whole song more fun and cinematic.”

The band’s lineup continues to pay dividends in terms of chemistry and character. Slide and western-leaning phrases from Garhardt, punk attitude from Lezzy Osbourne, and the rhythmic glue of Jefftimus and Pamtera all factor into the Boneyard DNA. The collaboration also extends visually. The music video for “Hanging Tree” finds the band leaning into historical costuming, playful staging and their own brand of frontier mischief.

Metal Hammer also highlighted the band’s mix of identity and authenticity. Lezzy speaks to LGBTQ+ representation in heavy music, while Jefftimus reflects on bringing Métis resilience and perspective into touring life. Rather than tokenizing these elements, Boneyard treat them as lived realities that inform how they write, perform and navigate the modern rock world.

Black Static follows the band’s debut Oathbreaker, once again working with acclaimed mastering engineer Maor Appelbaum. The intention is to preserve the live power Boneyard are known for, while giving Black Static a wider cinematic frame and more diverse sonic palette.

Asked what they hope listeners take away from Black Static, the band points toward emotion and authenticity. The record draws heavily from real frustrations, defiance, doubt and personal experience, balanced by the fictional storytelling found in tracks like “Hanging Tree” and “Compass Points to War”.

With a steadily growing profile and the support of platforms like Metal Hammer, Boneyard continue pushing forward with confidence and a willingness to color outside the genre lines.
