Translation: First of all, congratulations on “Evilution X”. How does it feel to be back in music?
Thank you! It’s always great to release Prime Evil material again. This is our first release since our “Soul Shattered” video/single in 2020, although we’ve been working on it for most of that time. Up until now. The production, mixing and mastering were done by you.
What about the recording?
We started recording “Evilution X” in late 2021 so that we can release it on its 10th anniversary in 2022. “Evilution” was initially released in 2012 on CD and cassette through Inferno Records, but we handled the digital distribution. Apparently we used the wrong distributor, because it hasn’t been available digitally for a while. Since it was no longer available digitally and was originally recorded with programmed drums, we decided to re-record the songs with a live drummer and re-release them digitally. We also realized that our EP “Terminal Dementia” released on Rage Records in 1992 would be 30 years old in 2022, as well as the 35th anniversary of our self-titled demo from 1987, so we decided to re-record “Terminal Dementia” and “Kill For Me” as well, making this a multi-anniversary release. Our newest member, drummer Antonio Padilla (Teloch Vovin), recorded all the drums in his private drum studio in New York City during the winter of 2021-2022. At that time, I was diagnosed with cancer, caused by smoking. In the spring of 2023, after tests and exams, I recovered - I was able to start recording all the guitars a year later. I also recorded the bass, as well as mixed and mastered everything, at my production studio, Aural Assault Studio in NY. Our vocalist, Andy Eichhorn, recorded all the vocals at Barking Dog Studios in Brewster, NY during the summer of 2023. Richie Kennon (Subzero) engineered the vocal session.
Does the record sound exactly how you wanted it to?
We collectively spent more time ensuring the performance and the sounds/tones/energy we recorded. The result is exactly what we wanted. To have a good recording, it has to be good from the source.
Were the old songs that are part of this record easy to choose?
Yes, very easy. We only had to choose one song from our self-titled demo, and since “Kill For Me” is the only song we still play live from that demo, there was really no other choice.
Festivals or a tour to promote the new release?
No, we are not playing any shows at the moment. This project took longer than expected because of my cancer, so we are writing our next album to record in 2025.
What is your opinion on the current New York Metal scene?
The New York Metal scene is still going strong. There are still many veterans in the scene tearing it up like Malignancy, Morpheus Descends, Demolition Hammer, Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, among many others...
Last question: what are the band's expectations for the album and also for 2024?
We are extremely happy with the result of the album. We worked hard on every part of every song to make sure it was the best performance we could possibly give; and if it wasn’t, we went back and made sure it was. We couldn’t be happier with the performance or the production. It’s by far our best release to date, and we look forward to improving on it with our next release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Prime Evil Unleashes Old-School Extreme Metal EP "Evilution X" on CDN Records!
Prime Evil, the legendary purveyors of old-school extreme metal hailing from the dark alleys of New York, are set to unleash their latest offering, "Evilution X," on April 26th, 2024. This EP marks a triumphant return for the band, celebrating milestone anniversaries of their illustrious career with five blistering new recordings.
Formed in the late spring of 1984, Prime Evil has long been a staple of the New York underground metal scene, sharing stages with iconic acts such as Death, Morbid Angel, and Obituary. Their uncompromising approach to music, coupled with their raw intensity, has earned them a devoted following over the decades.
"Evilution X" pays homage to the band's rich history, featuring re-recordings of tracks from their seminal "Evilution" EP, alongside two new songs crafted specifically for this release. Vocalist Andy Eichhorn, guitarist Mike Usifer, and drummer Antonio Padilla (Teloch Vovin) have breathed new life into these classics, infusing them with a renewed sense of power and vigor.
Recording for "Evilution X" began in 2021, with plans for a 2022 release to coincide with the anniversaries of Prime Evil's pivotal moments. However, the project was temporarily derailed when guitarist Mike Usifer was diagnosed with cancer. After a period of treatment and recovery, Usifer rallied back, leading the band to complete the recordings in the summer of 2023.
"Evilution X" is a testament to Prime Evil's resilience and dedication to their craft. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Mike Usifer himself, the EP showcases the band's unwavering commitment to delivering uncompromising metal of the highest caliber.
Following the release of "Evilution X," Prime Evil is already hard at work on new material for their next full-length album, promising even more sonic onslaughts in the near future.
