PHILM set release date for new METALVILLE album, reveal cover & tracklisting - @thebeast

After two critically acclaimed studio albums, Harmonic (2012) and its successor Fire From the Evening Sun (2014), experimental rockers Philm will return on February 19th, 2021 with their third album, Time Burner, to be released by new label home Metalville Records.  Time Burner is the most musically daring and mature release of the Los Angeles-based band so far. After the departure of drummer Dave Lombardo, singer/guitarist/pianist Gerry Nestler and bassist Pancho Tomaselli were able to continue. In Lombardo's place, Nestler and Tomaselli teamed up for the Time Burner sessions with Venezuelan-born and Grammy Award-winning drummer Anderson Quintero. "It was definitely a rejuvenating time for us, creatively speaking," says Nestler. "Before, there were certain restrictions - stylistic boundaries, if you will - whereas the canvas was wide open when we started writing and recording what became Time Burner.  It was kinda an 'anything goes' approach, really, and it’s made for a more dynamic end result." Recorded and mixed in Los Angeles and New York in collaboration with Chris Sorem and Nikhil Kamineni, Time Burner offers an extravagant musical variety. Black Sabbath-like heaviness ("Steamroller") meets Syd Barrett / Pink Floyd psychedelic ("Spanish Flowers"), bluesy stoner vibes ("1942"), and daring funk ("Wonka Vision"), combined with a powerful dose of hardcore. The kind of musical depth reveals what the previous albums had only hinted at. Multi-instrumentalist Nestler also juxtaposed old Philm assaults like "Cries of the Century" and "The Seventh Sun" with several piano-based pieces, including the album’s epic 11-minute closer, "Time Burner." "We are still as heavy and intense as ever – we definitely haven’t turned into a jazz band," laughs Nestler, "but it’s nice to have that contrast. Tension and release tends to make for a better listening experience. We’re all really pleased with how Time Burner turned out, and I think the best is yet to come for us." All About Boneyard: Launched in 2015, Canadian hard rock/ heavy metal band Boneyard is the lifeblood and passion of vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Pamtera. The band started out as a cover project, but has been writing original music for the past three years. Japan's COFFINS and Germany's DEPRESSION to release split album thru HELLS HEADBANGERS, reveal first tracks - @thebeast

Today, Hells Headbangers announces December 30th as the international release date for a special split album between Japan's Coffins and Germany's Depression on CD and vinyl LP formats. This split CD brings together two long-running and extremely prolific death metal cults, featuring all-new & exclusive materials. Of course, Coffins are one of Japan's most renowned exports, brandishing an immediately identifiable style of sewer-drenched doom-death since 1996. Here with their three tracks, Coffins largely forego the doom part of that equation and kick into high(er) gear with gross gallops of prime, classic DEATH METAL bubbling up from ancient times - and fittingly, capped off by a cover of Grave's "Morbid Way to Die." Germany's Depression have been active even longer, since 1989, and their tried 'n' true style of old-school death reflects that. Cleaner in production than their split-mates but no less gross in texture, Depression kick out six swift stabs of alternately headbanging/grinding gore, fittingly including a cover of Coffins' "Altars in Gore." Check it out here at this link: https://www.metal-rules.com/2020/12/01/sinnrs-profound/ Review Date: December 2020 Released: 2020, Extreme Metal Music Rating: 4.5/5 Reviewer: RC2000 Hailing from Denmark is the duo that forms Sinnrs, and they’ve released a full-length recording entitled PROFOUND on Extreme Metal Music. The band was formed in 2017 and they’ve been working on developing their sound ever since. PROFOUND features 10 tracks of blackened metal with some orchestral touches. After the eerie intro “Nihil”, Sinnrs waste no time getting to the intensity and aggression with “To Derive Eden’s Flame”. One of the things that make this band interesting is the use of choir-type backing vocals. I don’t think they’re recorded with an actual choir, but it gives the songs a very epic feel. “Lift My Bones” is a good example of this, around the three-minute mark. Along with some nice keyboard work, the song has a very theatrical feel. Throughout the record the vocals from Nero are ferocious and clear, and remind me of a slightly deeper version of Henri Sattler (God Dethroned). Also ferocious is the drumming from Maestus. Even when the overall tempo is relatively slow, like in the first part of “No Promise to Mankind”, there is a steady flow of double-bass drums setting the mood. There are plenty of structure changes in the songs to keep your attention, and the 47-minute album goes by fast. This release has a little bit of everything, and the production sounds good. Epic, soaring passages, relentless blastbeats, tempo changes – it’s all here. If you’re a fan of acts like Fleshgod Apocalypse, Necronomicon, and Vesperian Sorrow then you’ll dig Sinnrs. Highly recommended. For fans of: Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Carach Angren Where classical and extreme metal both collide, and merge in extreme harmony; Danish duo Sinnrs exude their own form of blackened metal , a sound that proves more brutal than their name, a sound cited in their own words, as 'pure dark matter'. Nero and Maestus formed Sinnrs in July 2017, and immediately started conjuring songs for their debut album ' Profound '. The 10-track release was mixed and mastered at the Hertz Studios in Poland , who have previously worked on releases from Behemoth , Vader and Decapitated . Fully conceived and performed by Nero and Maestus , ' Profound ' merges the furious brutality of extreme metal with the elegance of classical and opera, giving listeners a dimensional musical experience in pure dark matter. The juxtaposition of punishing guitar riffs and relentless blastbeats with symphonic arrangements and soaring vocals is fascinating in the way it highlights the inherent differences and similarities these genres have. While classical fans might balk at the savagery of Sinnrs ' sound, metal enthusiasts will enjoy getting swept up in the epicness the classical elements bring to the table. Whichever side you might fall on, ' Profound ' is an honest manifest that makes a wonderful spectacle out of a rather unlikely pairing. Today, Finnish black metal legends  Horna  stream the entirety of highly anticipated tenth album, Kuoleman Kirjo , at Inferno magazine's website . For over 25 years now, the Finnish black metal institution - founded by uber-prolific guitarist/songwriter Shatraug ( Sargeist , Behexen, et al) - have built a vast, virulent body of work beyond compare. In fact, when one mentions "Finnish black metal" nowadays, the name Horna  is immediately invoked...and for good reason. Simply put, their vision of unapologetic BLACK METAL is proud and pure, and played with an intensity and finesse that's familiar yet unique. While it's been five long years between full-lengths, Horna  have kept busy on the live front and, of course, hailing the ancient ways through splits, EPs, and even a live album and a Japanese-exclusive recording. In that interim, too, the lineup has shifted once again, with Shatraug and equally long-standing vocalist Spellgoth and guitarist Infection remaining, and the arrival of drummer LRH and bassist VnoM making their first recorded Horna  album appearance with  Kuoleman Kirjo . As can be expected, this lineup shift has reinvigorated the band, but also underlines how enduring and singular the Horna  sound is. The preceding  Hengen Tulet , released in 2015 via W.T.C. , retained a foully headbanging aesthetic - well, as much as Horna  can be conventionally "headbanging" anyway - with a nightsky melodicism coursing through those chilling veins. No less chilling, if not more so,  Kuoleman Kirjo  takes on an altogether-moodier aspect, with tempos remaining nearly as fast but the riffing of Shatraug and Infection showing a more contemplative side - somber at times, folky at others, but righteously  classic  in a most '90s manner. In fact, one could compare  Kuoleman Kirjo  to early Horna  touchstones as  Kohti yhdeksän nousua  and especially  Haudankylmyyden mailla , but in a more streamlined form - and one more asskicking, as per this lineup's utterly tyrannical stature onstage. The past is alive because the present is dead; there is no future. Horna  thus continue to stand immortal, and  Kuoleman Kirjo  is the only firmament on the foreseeable horizon.
