Gus Pynn of SACRIFICE Talks "Volume Six," Thrash Legacy, and the Rebirth of Canadian Metal on The Zach Moonshine Show

Canadian thrash metal legends SACRIFICE have roared back with Volume Six , their first studio album in over 16 years — and drummer Gus Pynn joined The Zach Moonshine Show for a raw and riveting conversation about the band’s journey from the underground to the modern day.

Formed in Scarborough, Ontario in 1984 , Sacrifice helped forge the early Canadian thrash metal scene alongside icons like Razor and Slaughter. Gus recalled joining the band in 1985 , after seeing them live at Larry’s Hideaway:
“I was just this guy that happened to go to the show... next thing you know, I was lucky enough to get a phone call from those guys... I showed up, played a couple songs — a couple Slayer songs — and those guys were pretty impressed.”
That jam included early Slayer tracks like “The Antichrist” , mixed with Sacrifice originals from their first demo, and helped cement Gus's place in the lineup.

Volume Six showcases Sacrifice at their most intense and personal, with themes of war, addiction, trauma , and survival . Gus noted that most of the album was written after the pandemic, saying, "By the time the end of '22 came, we were like, all right, we're gonna bear down and finish this fucking record." Originally planned as an EP, the sessions exploded into a 11-track monster, recorded at Phase One Studios .

The album is available on CD, vinyl, and cassette via Cursed Blessings Records (North America) and High Roller Records (internationally). Gus praised both labels and emphasized how the band's old-school approach — from lyric sheets to layout — was key: "It seemed like one of our old records, like nothing has ever changed with us."

In discussing the current state of metal, Gus made a powerful statement: “I think it's probably the best year for thrash I've ever seen in my lifetime. That's my own personal opinion.” He shouted out rising acts like Chemicide and Corrosive , applauding a new wave of bands keeping the fire alive.

This interview is a must-listen for fans of true, uncompromising thrash metal — part history lesson, part celebration, and all heart.

Faith No More’s “War Pigs” Cover Sparked an Unexpected and Life-Changing Moment with Ozzy Osbourne - @thebeast

In 1989, Faith No More released their breakthrough album The Real Thing , a genre-defying classic that launched them into the mainstream rock and metal spotlight. Driven by the explosive success of their hit single “Epic” , the album showcased the band’s dynamic fusion of funk, metal, and alternative rock. But among its standout tracks was a bold and passionate cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” —a decision that would eventually lead to an unforgettable and emotional encounter with Ozzy Osbourne himself.

Faith No More’s Rise with The Real Thing


With The Real Thing , Faith No More didn’t just score a radio hit—they redefined what was possible within metal and alternative music. “Epic” became an MTV staple, but the album’s deeper cuts, including the “War Pigs” cover, revealed the band’s raw power and reverence for heavy metal legends like Black Sabbath .

In 1990, Faith No More was named “Band of the Year” by Rip Magazine . As part of the honor, they were invited to perform at the Rip Magazine Awards in Los Angeles, sharing the stage with none other than James Hetfield of Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne .




“We couldn’t believe it,” drummer Mike Bordin told Metal Hammer . “We got up and played with Hetfield and Ozzy and it was incredible.”

Following the performance, a Hollywood afterparty brought many of the night’s musicians together. It was there that Ozzy Osbourne approached Bordin—and questioned the band’s decision to include “War Pigs” on their album.




“He said to me, ‘Why did you guys do ‘War Pigs’ on the album? Are you taking the piss?’” Bordin recalled. “It caught me off guard. It was the last thing I’d expect someone responsible for such iconic music to say.”




A Moment of Honesty That Changed Everything


At the time, Ozzy was struggling privately. He had recently been arrested for a violent incident involving his wife, Sharon Osbourne , and was entering a period of rehabilitation and recovery. His emotional state was fragile, and Bordin could see the pain in his expression.




“He looked so sad, man,” Bordin remembered. “I launched into this long story about how when I was young, my mom killed herself. I didn’t have much of a family. Things changed for me when I heard Sabbath.”




Bordin opened up about how Black Sabbath’s dark, heavy music helped him survive his most difficult years.




“I told him, ‘You saved my life.’ That music said, ‘You’re not alone.’ It really hit him. I had to tell him what he meant to me.”

The moment left a lasting impression. A few years later, Ozzy Osbourne invited Mike Bordin to join his band as his full-time drummer . After years of grinding in the underground, Me And All My Demons represents the culmination of Jawfane’s intense DIY ethic, unfiltered storytelling, and genre-bending sound. Originally self-produced, the EP was re-recorded and finalized in partnership with Exitus Stratagem Records, bringing the band’s vision to life with new power and clarity.




“We are absolutely beyond words for how excited we are to bring our first collection of songs into the world with and through Exitus Stratagem Records,” shares the band. “This record is a personal journey. Sonically, we brought the hammer. Lyrically, we brought a bigger hammer—and we intend to beat out a place in the world for us and our brand of metalcore.”







New Single & Video: “Time Hunts Us All”


Jawfane’s newest single “Time Hunts Us All” is the band’s fastest, most intense track to date—layered with intricate vocal harmonies and crushing rhythms. Thematically, it envisions time as a villain, a reaper chasing down all of us with relentless purpose.




“We pushed ourselves musically,” the band explains. “‘Time Hunts Us All’ is the fastest Jawfane song by a mile, contains the most vocals, and is in a key we don’t use often. It actually started as part of Austin’s audition—he didn’t write the lyrics, but he owns every word of his part. It really shows how collaborative our process is.”




The music video captures Jawfane’s signature blend of chaos and catharsis, delivering a hard-hitting message for anyone who’s ever felt invalidated, unseen, or unheard .

Musically brutal and atmospherically rich, “FODDER” offers a glimpse into a world haunted by loss, resurrection, and ancestral warnings. Vocalist Chelsea Marrow (also of Voraath , The Monster Factory , and contributor to the video games Doom Eternal and Hellblade II ) reveals:




“In the dream, I attempted to bring my friend back from the dead against the warnings of my ancestors — and everything went wrong. It felt like a horror short from my subconscious, and the video captures that eerie, ritualistic atmosphere.”

Melodic Death Metal Veterans Resurface With a Crushing Fusion of Death, Doom, and Blackened Fury

Woodbridge, VA — After more than two decades in hibernation, Virginia-based melodic death metal band AS THE SEA PARTS is set to unleash their long-awaited debut full-length album Psychosis on July 11th, 2025 . Formed in 1995 by multi-instrumentalist Paul Vanderslice , the band made a lasting underground impression with their Trilogy of Sorrow demo before entering a prolonged hiatus. Now, the storm has returned — heavier, darker, and more epic than ever.

For fans of early At The Gates , In Flames , and Death , Psychosis is a powerful blend of old-school melodic death metal with streaks of death/doom grandeur and subtle blackened atmosphere. The band’s reformation includes original drummer Erik Sayenga (Warthrone, ex-Dying Fetus) and guitarist Scott Loose (Brave, Stellar Death, While Heaven Wept), who rejoined Vanderslice in 2019 to breathe new life into the long-dormant beast.

The band’s 2021 digital single Psychosis offered a taste of what was to come, followed by Where Paradise Lies in 2022. The upcoming album expands on that promise with ten meticulously crafted tracks that honor the golden era of melodic death while carving out a dark, introspective sonic identity all their own.




“ Psychosis isn’t just a return — it’s a continuation of what we started in the ‘90s,” says Vanderslice. “We took everything we loved from that era and pushed it even further, with deeper songwriting, bigger dynamics, and a relentless emotional core.”

Chris Adler Opens Up About Family Rift and Personal Struggles Following Exit From Lamb of God - @thebeast

“It was as big of a shock to me as it was to the fans.”

Renowned drummer Chris Adler has broken his silence in a deeply personal and emotional interview, revealing the true weight of his departure from Lamb of God , the band he co-founded and helped drive to international acclaim. Speaking candidly with Blabbermouth.net , Adler details the cocktail of personal loss, health issues, and inner-band tensions that ultimately led to what he calls a “death sentence” to his identity.

A Departure That Shook the Metal World


In July 2019, Lamb of God officially announced that Adler was no longer a member. For fans, it was an unexpected blow. Adler was more than just the drummer—he was a co-architect of the band's sound, spirit, and ethos. The news landed like a bombshell, but for Adler, the moment was just as devastating.




“It was, ‘I don’t know how to make this work.’ I wasn’t given much of a choice. It was one of those emails: ‘Services no longer required.’”




Behind the scenes, Adler was already grappling with profound personal challenges. He had recently lost his mother, was going through a harrowing divorce, and was suffering from a debilitating neurological condition known as musician's dystonia —a task-specific movement disorder that disrupts motor control during performance.

A Medical Crisis Hidden Behind the Kit


The onset of Adler's dystonia began subtly around 2003 with minor issues in his right foot. But by 2016, while touring with both Lamb of God and Megadeth , his condition had progressed to the point of affecting performances.




“It got worse and worse. I took the medical work to the band… Nobody wanted to work around it.”




Despite going through therapy, visiting specialists, and even re-training himself to play using his left foot, Adler says the band wasn’t interested in adjusting to accommodate his limitations. This rejection added another layer of heartbreak to his already tumultuous situation.

The MEGADETH Effect and Band Tensions


Adler’s short-lived but high-profile stint with Megadeth , which included a Grammy win , may have also strained relationships within Lamb of God. While no one explicitly objected to him joining another band, Adler says the vibe changed.




“When Megadeth won a Grammy, that pushed it further. It just snapped.”




Combined with the band’s well-documented internal dysfunction, Adler felt increasingly isolated. The final blow came not with a conversation, but an impersonal email severing his ties to the band he had poured his soul into for over two decades.

Estranged From His Brother, Willie Adler


Perhaps the most painful revelation is the state of Adler’s relationship with his brother and Lamb of God guitarist, Willie Adler .




“We are estranged. Since that email that I got, where he was not even willing to talk to me about it, we haven’t spoken.”




Chris makes it clear that while he harbors no hatred, the silence has been deafening. Despite their familial bond, the fallout from the firing fractured their relationship beyond repair—for now.

Finding Peace and Moving Forward


After years of soul-searching, healing, and re-learning, Adler is ready to embrace a new chapter with his band Firstborne , featuring guitarist Myrone and vocalist Girish Pradhan (Girish and the Chronicles, The End Machine). Their debut full-length album, Lucky , drops July 18 via M-Theory Audio .




“I’m grateful and happy for where I am. My home life is awesome… I’m feeling a lot less pressure.”




When asked if he would ever return to Lamb of God, Adler was philosophical but resolute:




“Would I step in to do it again? Oh, man. I don’t know that I would… I’ll take the memories and the plaques and Grammys… and we’ll let it rest.”
