Former MANOWAR Guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman Diagnosed With ALS - @thebeast

Heavy metal and punk rock legend Ross “The Boss” Friedman, founding guitarist of MANOWAR and THE DICTATORS, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

According to a statement from Friedman’s publicist, the 72 year old musician received the diagnosis after months of unexplained physical symptoms, including weakness in his hands and legs. Doctors initially believed a series of minor strokes may have been responsible, but changes in diet, exercise, and physical therapy did not slow the progression of symptoms, leading to further testing and the eventual ALS diagnosis.

Friedman shared his own words with fans following the news:

“It’s difficult to know what lies ahead, and it crushes me not to be able to play guitar, but the outpouring of love has been so, so strong. I’m absolutely blown away by the love and support from family, friends, and fans. I love you all.”

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventual loss of voluntary muscle control. There is currently no cure.

Ross “The Boss” is widely regarded as one of the true architects of classic heavy metal guitar. As a founding member of MANOWAR, he recorded six studio albums with the band, including genre defining releases such as Battle Hymns (1982), Into Glory Ride (1983), Hail To England (1984), and Kings Of Metal (1988). His riff driven, no frills approach helped shape MANOWAR’s signature sound and influence generations of metal guitarists.

Before his time in MANOWAR, Friedman was already a trailblazer in punk rock with THE DICTATORS. The band’s 1975 debut Go Girl Crazy! predates landmark releases by RAMONES, THE CLASH, and the SEX PISTOLS, cementing Ross as a pioneer at the ground floor of the punk movement. Albums like Manifest Destiny (1977) and Bloodbrothers (1978) further solidified the band’s cult status.

Throughout the decades, Friedman continued to bridge the worlds of punk and metal. He reunited with fellow DICTATORS members in MANITOBA’S WILD KINGDOM, collaborated with Albert Bouchard of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT in BRAIN SURGEONS, and later returned fully to heavy metal with projects such as DEATH DEALER and his solo band ROSS THE BOSS. His career stands as a rare example of an artist who helped shape two major underground movements from the inside out.

News of Friedman’s diagnosis has prompted an outpouring of support from fans, musicians, and members of the global metal community. While the road ahead is uncertain, his legacy is carved into the foundations of heavy music itself. Ross “The Boss” is not just a guitarist. He is part of the DNA of metal and punk, and his impact will continue to roar long after the final chord fades.

GRAVEMASS UNLEASH NEW SINGLE “THIS IS THE WAY” — OUT FEBRUARY 13, 2026 - @thebeast

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAVEMASS UNLEASH NEW SINGLE “THIS IS THE WAY” — OUT FEBRUARY 13, 2026

West Coast Canada — Black metal wrecking crew Gravemass drop their debut album title track “This Is The Way” on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 12:00 AM via End Game Records Inc.

Genre: Black Metal
For Fans Of: Slayer, Venom, Morbid Angel, Watain, Napalm Death
ISRC: QZHN82628805

Emerging from the depths of the West Coast metal scene, Gravemass is a sonic war machine built from the combined fury of veteran players. The lineup reads like a who’s who of West Coast metal, featuring members and alumni of Zimmers Hole, Punch Drunk, 3 Inches of Blood, Revocation, Just Cause, West of Hell, Savannah, Process, and The Golers . This is true Canadian black metal, sharpened by decades in the trenches.

On “This Is The Way,” Gravemass deliver a punishing blend of sinister, heavy riffs and savage vocal power, channeling the raw hostility of black metal with the blunt-force trauma of death metal. The result is a track that hits hard, stays mean, and does not apologize for it. This is the opening salvo from their debut album and it sets the tone loud and clear.

Known for an unrelenting live presence, Gravemass bring that same intensity to the studio. No polish for the sake of polish, no soft edges, just disciplined brutality from musicians who know exactly how to weaponize sound. This is not a hobby band. This is a unit of seasoned operators doing what they do best.

Label: End Game Records Inc.
Production: Produced and Mastered by Tim Creviston

If you like your metal hostile, uncompromising, and forged by players who have already paid their dues, “This Is The Way” is your wake up call. Turn it up and brace for impact.

Rising doom and sludge metal force Stonewielder return with their soul-crushing EP The Suffering Ritual , originally released on September 6, 2025 , now receiving renewed attention with the release of the single “Burning Fire” on January 5, 2026 .

Forged in slow-moving heaviness and emotional weight, Stonewielder specialize in massive riffs, brooding atmospheres, and cinematic doom-laden songwriting. Drawing influence from High On Fire, Electric Wizard, Eyehategod, Candlemass , and early sludge metal, the band balance classic doom foundations with modern production and a dynamic, immersive sound.

Tracks like “Bury Me,” “Suffering,” and the title cut “The Ritual” showcase Stonewielder’s ability to channel raw emotion through towering fuzz, thunderous percussion, and dense sonic weight. The result is a record that feels ritualistic, oppressive, and strangely cathartic, capturing the spirit of doom metal at its most primal.

“The Suffering Ritual” has been praised for its massive riffs, haunting atmosphere, and spellbinding moments of melody, blending Sabbath-worship doom with sludge-soaked aggression and hints of early Mastodon energy. The EP stands as a fully realized statement from a band that understands how to let heaviness breathe without losing intensity.

With the release of “Burning Fire,” Stonewielder continue to push their sound deeper into the abyss, offering another slow-burning slab of doom that reinforces their growing presence in the underground heavy scene.

Patriarchs in Black Unleash “Completely Covered in Black” – Full Album Out February 13, 2026 via NoLifeTilMetal Records - @thebeast

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Patriarchs in Black Unleash “Completely Covered in Black” – Full Album Out February 13, 2026 via NoLifeTilMetal Records

NoLifeTilMetal Records kicks off 2026 with a full-on sonic assault as Patriarchs in Black return with their newest full-length album, Completely Covered in Black . Set for release February 13, 2026, this album delivers 11 high-voltage tracks, including stunning covers of rock and metal classics alongside bonus original material.

Ahead of the album, fans can stream the standalone single Left Behind , co-written by Dan Lorenzo and former Sixty Watt Shaman vocalist Daniel Soren, released on all digital platforms February 5, 2026.

Listen here:

Formed in late 2021 by Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non-Fiction) and Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative), Patriarchs in Black has released four full-length albums and a 6-song EP prior to this release, with each album featuring a different lineup of singers and bassists. Their previous records include Reach for the Scars (2022), My Veneration (2023), Visioning (2024), Home (2025), and Covered in Black EP (2025).

Completely Covered in Black showcases the band’s love for the classics with covers of iconic acts including Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel, Twisted Sister, Motorhead, and Queen. The album also features guest appearances from Mark Sunshine (Unida), Karl Agell (ex-Corrosion of Conformity), Kyle Thomas (Exhorder), Rob Dukes (Exodus), and Bobby Jensen (Hairball).

Fans will find exclusive content on each format: the vinyl pressing includes a bonus track of a Patriarchs in Black original titled Show Them Your Power , while the CD version adds two bonus cuts—Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir and another original, Dead and Dying .

Guitarist Dan Lorenzo reflects on the album’s concept:

"Johnny and I both love recording cover songs. If you haven’t noticed, we REALLY love Kiss. As I write this, it’s only been a week since the death of Ace Frehley. Like many musicians my age, I started playing guitar because of Kiss. On New Year’s Eve, 1978, I had yet to pick up a guitar. My friends and I wanted to play ‘air guitar’ to Kiss Alive! I immediately said, ‘I want to be Ace.’ Three months later, I was playing guitar. Johnny suggested the Peter Gabriel track, and Mark Sunshine’s vocal performance on ‘Games’ really blew people away."

The album is pressed on heavyweight opaque orange vinyl, featuring a 12” x 12” insert with photos, liner notes, and credits. The CD comes in a jewel case with an 8-page booklet. Only 200 vinyl copies will be pressed, making this a must-have collector’s item for fans of heavy music.

2.Strange Ways (Kiss)

4.Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin)

IATT Unleashes First Single “Drift Away” From Upcoming Album and Film Etheric Realms of the Night - @thebeast

IATT Unleashes First Single “Drift Away” From Upcoming Album and Film Etheric Realms of the Night

Philadelphia’s extreme metal innovators IATT are back, and they’re pulling listeners into a cinematic nightmare with the first taste of their forthcoming full-length, Etheric Realms of the Night , due May 8 via Black Lion Records.

The new single, “Drift Away” , serves as the entry point into IATT’s ambitious fusion of extreme metal and narrative film. Each track of the upcoming album acts as a chapter in this immersive experience, exploring dreams, sleep, and the liminal space between consciousness and the subconscious.

With Drift Away , IATT sets the tone for the journey ahead. The track moves with deliberate restraint and emotional weight, capturing the uneasy calm of falling asleep—where comfort and fear intertwine. The accompanying visuals deepen this sense of foreboding, drawing inspiration from Greek tragedy and mythos to craft a visceral, cinematic landscape.

This is not just a song, it’s a chapter in a larger story. Etheric Realms of the Night is IATT’s fourth full-length album, designed as a cohesive film where music and storytelling blur into a singular, immersive experience.

Tracklist for Etheric Realms of the Night
01. Drift Away
02. To Lie Beneath
03. Somniphobia
04. Pavor Nocturnus
05. Quietus

07. Hypnos

IATT continues to push the boundaries of progressive and extreme metal, creating a world where music, narrative, and the subconscious merge into a symphony of shadows.

Küntsquäd – Described as “crusty death metal,” the band’s female-led guttural vocals and relentless riff-based chaos earned praise for their genre-defying sound. Frontwoman Paula shared, “We aim to offer something different—extreme metal that doesn’t fit a specific niche.” Following four singles from Satans Cock , the band plans an Australian tour and new material for 2027. Review Summary: Blastbeats, black metal-inspired interludes, and stifling riff passages make this project a standout in the extreme metal underground.

The Trousers – Hungarian rock veterans deliver raw, unpolished garage rock on Necessary Evil (8/10). Frontman Zoltán Kőváry explained that the album draws inspiration from Sartre’s Hell is other people , blending old-school rock energy with deeply personal themes, including a tribute to his late brother on the track “Drive Me to the Stars.” Review Summary: Comparisons to The Rolling Stones, MC5, and The Hellacopters highlight its raw, high-octane rock ’n’ roll vibe, fueled with gasoline in the veins.

Mass Punishment – The American groove/thrash outfit made waves with Proving Grounds Devastation (8/10), showcasing symphonic elements and Tolkien-inspired storytelling. Formed by Iraq war veteran Chris “Axe” Milos, the band emphasizes the power of live performance. Notably, Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head/Kerry King) contributed lead guitar solos on “A Thousand Years of Darkness.” Review Summary: The album blends angelic vocals with symphonic, fantasy-driven metal, delivering an intricate yet aggressive sonic assault.

Sons of Hades – Greek metallers fuse old-school heavy metal, black metal, and thrash on Tombs of the Blind Dead , creating a “nightmare soundtrack” influenced by classic horror films and literature. The band prioritizes atmosphere and emotion over perfection, crafting an experience that’s both terrifying and electrifying. Review Summary: Aggressive riffs, dark atmospheres, and horror-inspired storytelling make this a must-listen for fans of blackened thrash.

Additional album reviews in the issue include:

Killerwitch – Palace of the Dragon (8/10) – Maltese power metal with strong riffs, varied tempos, and commanding vocals.

Katharein – Katharein (8/10) – Romanian heavy metal with modern elements, including vocals reminiscent of Rush.

Cruentus – End Without End (7/10) – Swedish blackened death metal, fast-paced, turbulent, and aggressive.

Balistic – The Parsons Tale (8/10) – Progressive/symphonic metal exploring the Seven Deadly Sins with conceptual storytelling.

Waves Without Sound – Lost (7/10) – Atmospheric, technical progressive rock/metal from Sydney, drawing inspiration from Opeth and Dream Theater.

“Metalized Magazine continues to be a beacon for the global metal community,” said Zach Moonshine of Metal Devastation PR. “This issue not only honors legendary acts like Megadeth and Exodus but also shines a spotlight on the next generation of extreme, underground, and progressive metal talent.”

Vicar Blood Unleashes Death Metal Fury on The Zach Moonshine Show - @thebeast

Vicar Blood Unleashes Death Metal Fury on The Zach Moonshine Show

Friday night, The Zach Moonshine Show went full-on death metal assault, and Cleveland’s newest underground predators, Vicar Blood , were right in the heart of it. From their debut single “When War Comes” to crushing riffs, gut-punch grooves, and relentless energy, this episode was a masterclass in old-school fury meeting modern ferocity.

🎧 Listen to the full show with new releases and classics on Mixcloud:

From TikTok Riffs to Full-Blown Death Metal

Dan Gates, the mastermind behind Vicar Blood, shared how the band came together in a story that could only happen in the age of social media. “I always seem like I always have something going on… and Veda heard some riffs I posted online, and she said, ‘Let’s start a band.’ And that’s how Vicar Blood began,” Dan said during our live interview segment.

From that spark, the band quickly grew to include Steve Fernandez on bass, Will on guitar, and drummer Charlie, forming a lineup capable of bringing raw brutality with precision. They played their first show in December, opening for Castrator in Cleveland, and the response was immediate: “We couldn’t have asked for a better first show,” Dan said.

🎥 Check out the full interview segment on YouTube:

Writing, Recording, and DIY Metal

Vicar Blood isn’t just about shredding and growling—they’re hands-on with every aspect of their music. Dan discussed mixing, mastering, and crafting the perfect guitar tone:

“The first couple of songs were written in standard tuning, then I moved into drop A on my 7-string… ran it through my Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier and blended some IRs. Everybody in the band was really happy with it.”

This DIY ethic is part of what makes the band exciting: the music is uncompromising, yet thoughtfully produced. They’re planning a full-length album to release before Inkcarceration Fest 2026, and most of the music is already written.

The Metal Journey

In our conversation, Dan also reflected on his musical upbringing, from skateboarding in the ’80s to discovering thrash and death metal, and ultimately carving his own path:

“Once I heard Reign in Blood … I just didn’t know that music could be that evil, that extreme. It hooked me for life.”

We talked about the tape-trading scene, early death metal influences, and the evolution of metal today:

“It’s mind-blowing—these new bands keep taking it to the next level. And it all goes back to Black Sabbath, you know?”

What’s Next for Vicar Blood

For now, the band is laser-focused on writing and recording their full-length album. Local shows are on hold—they don’t want to get distracted from crafting music that hits hard and leaves a mark. With Inkcarceration Fest on the horizon, it’s clear that Vicar Blood is aiming for nothing less than domination.

“If you’re interested in the band, go to vicarblood.com—everything you need is there, merch, music videos, all of it,” Dan told us.

Crank It Loud

If last night’s broadcast taught us anything, it’s that Vicar Blood isn’t here to play nice. They’re here to crush, to dominate, and to honor the spirit of old-school death metal while pushing it into the modern era. Whether it’s their riffs, their stories, or their gear nerding, they’re unapologetically metal.

Los Angeles, CA — Progressive heavy metal outfit FREYCUS has just dropped their brand new collaborative single and music video, “Justice Miscarried,” a fierce and emotionally charged track featuring powerhouse vocalist PEEKAY (Pranati Khanna). The release marks another bold chapter for the band as they continue to push their sound into darker, more politically and socially charged territory.

The track tackles themes of injustice, abuse of power, and the devastating consequences of moral failure, channeling outrage and sorrow into a cathartic sonic experience.

Lyrically, the song confronts the realities of systemic failure and violence, giving voice to those left carrying the weight of broken justice. With lines like “I see weak men rise to the occasion, playing God while they take lives of our children,” the track pulls no punches, making “Justice Miscarried” one of FREYCUS’s most direct and hard-hitting statements to date.

Metal Devastation Radio and PR Crack 23.4 Million Views and Snag Another Google Search Trophy - @thebeast

Metal Devastation Radio and PR Crack 23.4 Million Views and Snag Another Google Search Trophy

January kicked the year off with boots on throats and amps on 11. The underground didn’t take a holiday, and Metal Devastation Radio and Metal Devastation PR came out swinging with another monster month that proves this machine is only picking up speed.

Once again, Google coughed up another shiny Search Trophy after clocking 805,000 impressions in January. No gimmicks, no pay-to-play fairy tales, just real reach powered by the global metal underground doing what it does best.

Another Month, Another Wall Smashed

January’s numbers hit like a double kick to the chest:

• 167,000 active users holding down the underground
• 166,000 new users finding the noise and staying for the chaos
• 328,000 total views ripping across the site
• 1,000,000 tracked events clicks, streams, submissions, and all the beautiful mayhem in between

All-time total views now stand at a brutal 23,477,539 . That is not a fluke. That is consistency, grind, and a scene that refuses to play dead.

Straight From the Frontlines

“It’s wild watching this thing keep growing month after month,” says Zach Moonshine.
“Crossing 23.4 million views just tells me the underground is alive, loud, and still hungry. These Google trophies are cool, but what really matters is that bands are getting heard and fans are actually showing up. The algorithms don’t get to decide what matters. We do.”

Fueled by the Underground

This milestone belongs to the whole ecosystem:

• Bands and labels bringing the heavy and the real
• Zines and media keeping metal documented and dangerous
• Fans worldwide clicking, sharing, and spreading the word like a plague
• DJs and staff keeping Metal Devastation Radio blasting 24/7
• Tennessee Metal Devastation Music Fest turning online noise into real-world carnage

Every stream, every click, every submission pushes this thing further out of the shadows.

What’s Next

With 23.4 million views in the rearview and the momentum still climbing, the mission stays the same. Champion real bands. Cut through industry nonsense. Keep giving the underground a megaphone that actually works.

“If you’re heavy and you’re real,” Moonshine adds,
“Metal Devastation is built for you. Real listeners, global reach, and a scene that actually gives a damn. This isn’t just promo. It’s a movement.”

Thank You

This milestone belongs to everyone who streamed, clicked, submitted, shared, and backed the underground. This scene does not fade out. It adapts, it grows, and it gets louder every damn month.

Helldrifter, Infest (Serbia), Outburst, and VULNIFICUS - Featured in Necromance Magazine - @thebeast

Metal Devastation PR Clients Featured And Reviewed In Latest Issue Of Necromance Magazine

Metal Devastation PR is proud to announce that clients Helldrifter, Infest (Serbia), Outburst, and VULNIFICUS are featured in the latest issue of the legendary Necromance Magazine, with all four bands receiving strong critical praise for their recent releases.

Helldrifter’s Shell of Inexistence (Violent Creek Records) earned an 8/10 score, praised for blending the melodic ferocity of old At The Gates with the technical brutality of late era Death. The album was highlighted for its visceral songwriting, strong production, and immersive artwork that pulls listeners into a dark, nightmarish world.

VULNIFICUS’ Inclination (Comatose Music) also scored an 8/10, with Necromance spotlighting the band’s swampy, putrid death metal attack, devastating heaviness, and surprising technical depth beneath the surface. Tracks like “Bacteria Backlash” and “Involuntary Incapacitated” were noted for their balance of brutality, speed, and intricate riff work.

Serbian death thrash veterans INFEST received an 8/10 for Ambassadors of Aggression (Violent Creek Records), with the album described as a savage and dynamic release rooted in classic influences such as Kreator, Slayer, and Sepultura. The review praised the album’s aggressive songwriting while also highlighting adventurous moments like the semi acoustic “Requiem for the Balkans.”

Outburst’s Devouring The Masses (Violent Creek Records) earned a solid 7.5/10, recognized for its raw, old school blend of thrash and speed metal in the true 80s tradition. The record was praised for its direct songwriting, energetic riffing, and stripped down production that stays true to the genre’s roots.

The latest issue of Necromance Magazine also features UNDEAD on the cover, along with in depth coverage of Demiurgon, The Medea Project, Infrahumano, Vanir, 3000 A.D., Eldfödd, Blood Red Throne, Shadow Rebels, Enragement, Heads For The Dead, and more.

With its continued dedication to real metal culture and underground credibility, Necromance Magazine remains a vital voice for the extreme metal scene worldwide.

New York Power Metal Veterans Continue Their Comeback Momentum After Pandemic Setbacks

New York-based power metal force Lost Legacy are back in fighting form and gaining serious traction, following their recent high-profile performance alongside Metal Allegiance, Red Reign, and Chained Saint at the House of Blues in Anaheim. The January 22, 2026 show was captured by Metal Injection photographer Derek Tobias , with the outlet featuring Lost Legacy as part of their coverage of the night’s explosive performances.

Metal Injection praised the stacked bill and the intensity of the show, spotlighting Lost Legacy as they shared the stage with Metal Allegiance during a night that tore through Anaheim’s House of Blues and reminded fans why live metal still hits different when it is done right.

For Lost Legacy, the Anaheim appearance marks another major step forward in a long, hard-earned comeback story.

Their 2020 album In the Name of Freedom , released via Pure Steel Records , arrived just days before the global pandemic shut the world down, abruptly halting touring plans that included dates with Doro and other major acts.

“Everything changed overnight,” says guitarist and executive producer Jorge Pulido . “It was crushing. But we never gave up.”

Since 2022, Lost Legacy have steadily rebuilt their momentum, navigating lineup changes and a battered live scene while remaining selective about performances. The Metal Allegiance show, now backed by coverage from Metal Injection, stands as a clear signal that the band is back on serious footing.

Capturing Chaos: The Live Video That Almost Wasn’t

Determined to document the Anaheim performance, the band brought five cameras, including three shooting in 4K. Technical issues nearly killed the project when one camera broke during transport, another failed mid-show, and the venue’s soundboard recording was accidentally stopped by the audio engineer.

With no professional audio track to rely on, the band reconstructed the performance using camera mic audio alone.

“It wasn’t ideal,” Pulido admits. “But we blended what we had and made it work. It’s raw, but it is honest. That night meant a lot to us, and we wanted to preserve it.”

About the Album

In the Name of Freedom was produced, mixed, and mastered by Tom Tullota , with executive production by Jorge Pulido . The album delivers classic power metal energy with heavy riffs and melodic storytelling rooted in themes of resilience, freedom, and perseverance. Fans of Metal Church, Fates Warning, Metal Allegiance, and Testament will feel right at home.

What’s Next for Lost Legacy

With a new album slated for release this fall and more live appearances in the works, Lost Legacy are entering their next chapter with renewed momentum. The band is currently booking interviews and seeking new performance opportunities as they reconnect with longtime supporters and bring in new fans worldwide.

Zero Tolerance Earn 8/10 Praise from Headbangers Australia for New Album A Test of Strength Out Now via Witches Brew Records - @thebeast

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Zero Tolerance Earn 8/10 Praise from Headbangers Australia for New Album A Test of Strength
Out Now via Witches Brew Records

Metal Devastation PR clients Zero Tolerance are gaining serious traction following a strong new review from Headbangers Australia , who awarded the band’s latest album A Test of Strength an 8/10 and praised the record for its discipline, focus, and pure thrash metal impact.

In their review, Headbangers Australia highlights Zero Tolerance’s no-nonsense approach to modern thrash, stating:

“Zero Tolerance’s A Test of Strength arrives with no pretense and no disguise. It is a straight line document of intent with eight tracks, thirty minutes, and no deviation from their mission… The Canadian quartet operates inside thrash’s classic framework, but they refuse to reenact it. They sharpen it, condense it, and strip it down to the core mechanics of velocity, articulation, and impact.”

The review goes on to spotlight standout tracks such as “Hexengeist,” “Leather Lung,” “Point Blank,” and “Breach for Terror,” noting the band’s understanding of momentum, tight execution, and controlled yet aggressive production. The title track “A Test of Strength” is praised as the album’s hinge point, while “Kill the Colony,” “N.O.Y.C.” and closing track “Incendiary” push the record to a focused, blistering finish.

“ A Test of Strength succeeds because of its refusal to excess. Zero Tolerance knows the lineage they’re entering, and they answer it with discipline, clarity, and complete impact.”
— Headbangers Australia (8/10)

With A Test of Strength out now via Witches Brew Records , Zero Tolerance continue to prove that modern thrash does not need gimmicks or nostalgia to hit hard. This is pure intent, pure aggression, and pure metal.
