Track Premiere: Dust Prophet – “Hourglass” - @thebeast

Dapper and dashing trio Dust Prophet hail from Manchester, New Hampshire and are as obsessed with Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Clutch and Sabbath as they are dusty literature from the inky quills and drunken typewriters of Milton, Poe, Hemingway, whoever actually wrote the bible and coffins full of gothic tales and novels. These disparate, but not-so-disparate worlds collide in earnest totality on “Hourglass,” the latest single from the band’s upcoming debut album, One Last Look Upon the Sky which is set for independent release in the spring. Today, we’re streaming its layered and languid stoner metal sumptuousness in advance of the album for fans of slow ’n’ low sound and high brow word smithing alike to dig into. When we asked the band for some background on the track in question, guitarist/vocalist Otto Kinzel had this to say: “The lyrics for ‘Hourglass ‘are inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, specifically the longing of eternal love and the pain that comes from losing said eternal love. I love that story and I’ve always been interested in the underlying themes of love and separation that are buried beneath the bigger picture of a horror story. In my opinion, it’s one of the big reasons why so many people love Dracula. He’s not just some evil villain who is evil just for the sake of being evil; rather, he’s someone who has been deeply hurt through loss. It’s something many of us can relate to. Maybe you haven’t had the love of your life taken from you by death but most of us have had our hearts broken at some point. Hence the line, ‘I cross the sands of time for you.’ “Musically, the primary verse and chorus riffs were written by our bassist [and keyboardist], Sarah Wappler. The whole song came together fairly quickly once we started jamming it all together. From early on I had the hook for the chorus in my head. It just took some time to work it out and get everything to fit together. It was the first song we composed, jammed and completely finished with our drummer Tyler [MacPherson], who at the time was brand new. I remember how energized I felt by that; the ‘new guy’ came in and musically we clicked almost immediately. It was a huge shot in the arm for us.” -  Via Decibel Magazine Hourglass by Dust Prophet https://dustprophet.com/home https://dustprophet.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/dustprophet/ https://www.facebook.com/dustprophet

The Only AOTY List That Matters! - 2021 - @thebeast

Every year I get excited to read everyone's lists online of what they think are the best releases of the year. One of my favorites has always been Decibels Top 40, but thanks to the post office and the pandemic and or whatever other excuse it might be, I am still waiting for that issue. What makes one list better than another? The truth is: all lists matter and there really is no one list to rule them all! A list is simply one's opinion much like a review or anything else you will come across, unless of course it was a list comprised of polling results which would be a different thing all together.  This year was jam packed with great releases from January to December and I know because I promoted over 400 of them with my promotional company MDPR! I also interviewed many of the bands in this list this year and talked about their new release as it was coming out which undoubtedly creates a bond with the music, for me anyway. Creating a list of favorites or what I think are the best or what really stood out in my opinion is a daunting task when I look back at so many great releases. There is no doubt that after I post this, I will think of something else that should have been added but it is what it is and as I noted it's just a list. Almost everyone in today's self-righteous society thinks their list is the only list that matters hence the sarcastic title of this article "The Only AOTY List That Matters! - 2021". So, anyway here goes. My top 66 releases from 2021 and yes, I broke a few rules by including a live record an E.P. and a couple splits. Whatever, it's my list damnit! ...Enjoy!  ⦁ 66. New Promo: Perceived - Perceived EP - (Hard Rock/Metal) - @thebeast

Release Date: October 30th, 2020 FFO: Metallica, Tool, Staind Perceived is a three-piece rock band out of Dallas Texas. Formed in May of 2018, longtime friends of over 20 years, Chris Bell and Charlie McBride, decided to get together and work on some old songs as well as write new material with the help of their very good friend and bass player, Kevin Crawley. After a few rehearsals, it was very noticeable that things were just starting to click naturally between the three. After writing and working on material for over a year, Perceived played their first show in May of 2019 to a well-received crowd and has since performed with multiple local and national acts all around the DFW area. With so many different influences, their sound can't really be described by one genre. Their dynamic compositions range from melodic melodies to heavier breakdowns. Having just released their debut EP on Friday October 30th, Perceived is definitely a band to keep an eye (or ear) out for.  Check out this video! Vile Cynic - Agony - Reviewed By Metal Digest! - @thebeast

Vile Cynic - Agony - Reviewed By Metal Digest ! Check it out here at this link: https://metal-digest.com/2021/12/28/vile-cynic-agony/ An artifact unearthed from the womb of time it belonged to and integrated into the present may sometimes yield not the result as it did in it’s past life, for even though reverence was bestowed onto such , the same actions that were given may cease to exist now. In other words, it is like looking at a map that was forged eons ago, trying to use that which once guided before would be futile, for the paths may no longer be present. But what am I getting at? In regards to what was  expressed above this bleeds into the sentiments of music, more specifically the action of trying to capture a particular scene that existed before and this leads me into today’s review…Vile Cynic’s ‘Agony’. An album that is teeming with talent and creativity, but in my opinion the thorn which protrudes from its side is the feeling it tries to emanate which is that of Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore during the 2000’s period. Now before anyone becomes engulfed with rage , let me quell the steam by stating by no means am I disregarding the integrity of the genre that was stated, for I wish not to slander it’s artistic ideas, rather what I am stating Is that in my opinion, certain bands that created such albums in the early 2000s, what made those particular offerings memorable, besides talent, is the time period for which they were ingrained…meaning, the magic established in these releases arrived from both innovation as well as the place and time for which they were birthed. Does this mean that every band that tries to morph their sound in order to harken back to the olden days will fail? No… absolutely not, for a band can still don the skin of the old while also imbuing onto it their own DNA, in other words, the ‘older sound’ now seeks not to be the very apex that graces this monument, but instead it elevates the atmosphere. From my perspective, this is what obscures the portrait of ‘Agony’, in that it’s an attempt to reach the realms of that particular genre whilst the journey should have been taken in exploring the depths of their own sound. But the real question….is the album bad? No, it’s far from being labeled ‘bad’, as there are many meritorious moments especially where the individual components of the vocals, strings and percussions are concerned. ‘Tools of The Tormentor’ and ‘Hell Priest’ showcases the virtuosity in the riffing as well as drumming, but most importantly it is the skill to craft a rather vehement feeling that is brought to life by the vocals, dispelling an effect as though the lungs are void of moisture as the verses of spewed forth. The synergy amongst the musicians is one of the defining peaks in this album, as the energy that is shared in order to craft this beast is commendable in my humble opinion. ‘Agony’ even though a fine delicacy of Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore it’s succulency is drowned in it’s attempt to recapture a fire that was once lit. To you the reader, if you discovered other qualities that you may have gleaned from this release, I am most glad, for even though it may not have been the album I desired, I would still recommend this to those who relish this genre. - Metal Digest Bio: Vile Cynic is an emerging metal band based out of Chicago. 6 Essential Reasons to Play the Ukulele - @thebeast

No one can deny the ukulele's allure. Its upbeat tone has helped it make a reappearance in recent years, and you've probably heard it used in popular songs on the radio, with musicians like Ingrid Michaelson, Joni Mitchell, Eddie Vedder, and Paul McCartney of the Beatles using it in their performances. The ukulele is an excellent instrument to learn, even if you're a guitar player seeking a change of pace or if you've not played any instrument before. But what exactly is a ukulele? Continue reading to learn more. Ukulele definition The ukulele is a string instrument that belongs to the lute family. It usually has four strings, but it may also have six or eight strings. Ukuleles are typically constructed of wood; however, some have been built from plastic and other materials. The ukulele is an essential instrument that can generate lovely music that is loved all around the globe. Anyone who has heard George Michael's exquisite mix of last Christmas chords would undoubtedly agree. Reasons to play the ukulele. It's Simple to Understand The ukulele is more straightforward to master than the guitar or other stringed instruments such as the mandolin. Its light nylon strings are kinder on your fingers than guitar strings. Since the notes are reached without extending, the compact size decreases wrist stress. It also has four cords, making it simpler to master. It is reasonably priced. Purchasing a ukulele will not strain your budget in the same way that purchasing other instruments would. A new ukulele can be purchased for under $100, and there are many body sizes to meet your requirements and budget, so you don't have to worry about it becoming destroyed. It makes for a good time. The ukulele is a charming instrument since it is not scary and can be handled by anyone, irrespective of their age. Its upbeat, joyous tone makes it a pleasure to play and accessible to anyone. They just sound fantastic. The uke has a rich, pleasant tone that will put a happy face on those around you. It's a great pick-me-up whether you're alone in your bedroom or at a party with pals. Songs that are easily adapted to the ukulele Most popular songs in various genres can be played on the ukulele (yes, even metal). One may simplify even songs with intricate chord progressions for the ukulele due to the instrument's four strings. Guitar Technique is Transferable to the Uke Guitarists may easily swap between the ukulele and the guitar. The scales and chord shapes you mastered on the guitar may be utilized on the ukulele; the names are only different. Chordify has music samples with chords for both the guitar and the ukulele that one can compare. Conclusion The ukulele has been linked with some of the more unique and quirky performers, such as Tiny Tim, but many mainstream artists have also used it. The ukulele is now mostly linked with traditional and Hawaiian music. It is a valuable instrument since it is cheap, tiny, lightweight, and portable.

Myronath - Djevelkraft - Reviewed At Zwaremetalen.com! - @thebeast

Myronath - Djevelkraft - Reviewed At Zwaremetalen.com ! Check it out here at this link: https://zwaremetalen.com/albumrecensies/myronath-djevelkraft With their debut album, Into the Qliphoth, Myronath's Swedes proved two years ago that they are capable of putting together a more than solid black metal album. Myronath stands for robust, melodic-occult music in which melody and fiery aggression go hand in hand. Not all the songs on the debut were equally haunting, but the band did manage to continue to stimulate the interest of the listener through sufficient variety and some striking attention grabbers. Especially closing track Annihilation of the Crescent Moon is still a fixed value in my 'with-the-bike-to-work-and-backplaylist'. An apocalyptic, unleashed fury that makes the pedals go up and down a lot faster. After two years, the gentlemen are back with a successor: Djevelkraft. The heart of the band, the Maltese bassist/singer Hellcommander Vargblod(Khaospath,ex-Martyrium)and guitarist Lars Björkens (now under the name of Bjarkan instead of Malphas, among others also active with Ragnarok),has remained unchanged. Ex-Marduk drummer Lars Broddesson was meanwhile exchanged for Fredrik Andersson, who was active for a long time with Amon Amarth. Yes, Myronath knows how to choose his drummers. At Djevelkraft, the line-up is supplemented by Myrkheim, who was previously active as a session guitarist with the band. The connection with Marduk has remained, because Devo Andersson (ex-guitarist and bassist with the band) was responsible for the recording and production of Djevelkraft in his Endarker Studio. The foursome brings us just under an hour full of potty black with a lot of feeling and brutality. Because yes, that combination really exists. Myronath is not the band to suddenly change course 180°. Djevelkraft is therefore the logical successor of Into the Qliphoth. The band has developed its own style from the beginning and they are (rightly) very satisfied with that. There is therefore no reason to change anything about the way they write, build and respond to the songs. You know what I find so special about this band? It is of course a fact that their music does not really excel in originality and innovation, but every song is wonderfully nice to hear! That is a skill that they master perfectly at Myronath: writing smoothly listening songs that always sound powerful, balanced, dynamic, melodic and at the same time full of feeling. Let me start with Evil Unchained. After a few somber, worn chords, Mr. Andersson's drums blasted the song all the way. Melody is omnipresent here, but it is mainly the semi-dissonant riffs in the faster parts that willingly throw you into that occult atmosphere around which Myronath builds up his songs every time. The interplay is sublime and watertight, as if everything was recorded live. And while many of the excellent, catchy riffs and lead melodies are repeated, the flow and dynamics are of such a nature that no boredom occurs. The drums are deliberately kept tight and dry. They regularly excel in speed and thus provide an extra dimension on top of the mean riffs and the beastly gray of Hellcommander Vargblod. The latter also single-handedly provides some occult additions in the form of mesmerizing, deeply sonorous singing. She Who Dwells In Flames is clearly a reference to the (daring) album cover and starts with a rotten pace. The lead melody that forms the common thread here is possibly even more compelling than that of Evil Unchained. The band continuously switches in rhythm, atmosphere and tempo, while the song does not lose its continuity. Devo Andersson has done an impressive job, because he has managed to give every part of the music the attention it deserves. The drums are slightly in the background, but still remain audible. The vocals and lead guitar are in the foreground, allowing the band to optimally play its main strengths: melody, vocal versatility and an emphasis on the lyrical theme. "And the bass guitar?", you ask yourself. Well, he gets a nice leading role at the beginning of Radix Diaboli. This song also stands out for its playful, groovy middle piece, after which Hellcommander Vargblod brings out his "clean" voice to bring up the title of the song. It seems that the text as a whole consists of Latin texts, although this is subject to reservation due to the lack of lyrics. That Myronath is not averse to a bit of Latin, they had already proven on the song Hymn to Lucifer from their previous album. Anyway: if you have the lyrics at hand, this seems to me to be the sing-along of the album. The rhythm/melody combination here is very reminiscent of naglfar'scompatriots. Every song has something extra to offer on a melodic level and so it is difficult to choose a highlight from it. The Hellstain Productions label chose Effigy or Malediction and Evigt Mörker as singles, but those are certainly not the best songs on the album. In fact, the level of all songs is equally high and also in terms of style everything is perfectly connected. Nevertheless, there are nice (unexpected) extras on every track. "Attention grabbers," as I called them above. Like the dangling solo in Till Aska,or the quiet acoustic intro and outro of The Sword of Satan, which also conjures up some delicious tremolo moments. In the end, Myronath usually falls back on blast beats and that typical Swedish meloblack (or just keeps the pace high all the time, like on Reborn In Chaos),but it never gets monotonous. As mentioned, Evigt Mörker is certainly not better than the other songs, but it does carry that little bit more emotional depth. The tempo is slightly slower here, but the melodies are a bit more drawn out, to support the lyrics about the worship of the Dark. The general atmosphere is therefore slightly darker, which is further enhanced by the deep-throated monster grunts that Hellcommander Vargblod adds here. You feel the conviction, the devotion flowing out of his voice. Great song! Djevelkraft consists of eleven full-fledged songs, of which only the closing track is instrumental. No hassle with interludes, but just dead honest, occult black. And that occult is always tangibly present. For example, if you want to enjoy something that is dirty, dark and irresistibly mean, I can recommend To Walk the Paths of the Dead. From the lingering opening chords to the heavy, infernal riffs, this is a feast for the satanic black metal lover. The only band I know that can make black metal sound as groovy is Satyricon, but with the best will in the world it doesn't sound half as dark as Myronath. Class. The album closes with the sensitive and beautiful Beyond the veil of Death, which is only performed by guitars. And then you can only conclude that we are dealing here with a very strong album by a band that knows how to model its songs in a masterful way, with a great eye for harmony and a pronounced ability to produce delicious riffs and haunting melodies. The fact that all songs are very easy to hear is reason enough to recommend this album to all black metal lovers. Myronath confirms the class and good intentions of the previous album and even goes the extra mile. And yes, why shouldn't it end up somewhere in your top-20 annual list?... - Zwaremetalen.com Hellstain Productions Release-date: 4 June 2021 Swedish Black Metal for fans of Dark Funeral, Necrophobic, Marduk… 56 minutes of powerful black metal and dark melodic passages across 11 tracks with Fredrik Andersson (ex-Amon Amarth) on drums!  "Ritualistic, Agressive and Dynamic" - Metal Hammer PT Here are some words from the band about “Djevelkraft” from an upcoming interview in Metalized Magazine Denmark: “We are all very satisfied with the final result. The sound is exactly as we imagined! Kudos to Devo Andersson (ex Marduk) at Endarker Studio for his work on this one! He is a very talented person and his experience in Black Metal really shows, and immediately understood what we needed. Musicwise, all songs offer different emotions and we hope that these emotions will also reach our listeners the way we intended!" - Hellcommander Vargblod Check out these videos! Tracklist: 1. In Regno Tenebris 11. Beyond the veil of Death BIOGRAPHY Myronath started out as a side project of Hellcommander Vargblod (H.V), sole member of Khaospath and Draugûl – together with Bjarkan who also plays in various other bands; Ragnarok, Throne of Heresy, Kala, Blood of Serpents amongst others. The band took a quick turn to be a serious one and the two members started writing material directly for their first release. H.V (bass and vocals) and Bjarkan (guitars) were shortly after joined by none other than Lars Broddesson on session studio and live drums, who people certainly know from Marduk. Then Myrkheim (from Serpesta) joined as a live session guitarist for Myronath. In late spring 2019 Myronath entered the studio and recorded their first full length “Into the Qliphoth”. It consists of 8 tracks solely dedicated and in veneration to the members’ creed and practices. The album was mixed by Lars Broddesson at Twisting Serpent Studios, and was later mastered by Devo Andersson (ex-Marduk) at Endarker Studio, Sweden. Summer 2019 Myronath signed with Dutch record label Non Serviam Records for one album, and “Into the Qliphoth” was released early September 2019. This was during the band’s very first live performance at the “Mörkaste Småland Festival” in Hultsfred, Sweden – alongside bands such as Gra and Svartidaudi. December 2019 saw Myronath playing live again at the December Darkness festival, alongside Marduk, Avslut and others. Due to personal reasons Lars Broddesson could unfortunately not continue as drummer of Myronath at this point, but without delay the band recruited none other than Fredrik Andersson (ex-Amon Amarth, Netherbird) to replace Lars behind the battery. Myrkheim was by now also a full member of the band, and Myronath started working with new material for the band’s second release. The album was recorded at Endarker Studio autumn 2020 under the hands of Devo Andersson (ex-Marduk). Myronath was now looking for new partnership to release their second album and develop the band further. Early 2021 they inked a deal with Hellstain Productions, and together they soon after released “Effigy of Malediction” as the first single from the upcoming album, together with an official video for the song. The second album is entitled “Djevelkraft” and is set for release 4th of June 2021 on CD and Gatefold double vinyl together with official merchandise. The second single “Evigt Mörker” is also out now, including a lyric video. We were kids that didn’t know what they were doing besides writing what we thought were good death metal songs with typical death metal lyrics. More than 20 years have passed since our last release of new music, and we wanted to show how we have evolved as persons and musicians. We wanted to stay true to our old school death metal roots while adding new elements to our music such as clean vocals. We really like the music we were able to write for the new album. We think old fans and new fans will find something for them in our new songs and we can’t wait for them to hear the album. “Follow the Scars” is also a look into our personal lives over the past twenty years lyrically. The lyrics are not the typical death metal lyrics we used to write. Not because we want to deny our past but because we wanted to talk about the issues we faced in our lives. Just like the music the lyrics are a product of how we have matured and evolved as human beings and musicians. We wanted the lyrics to reflect that." - Decerebration   For fans of Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Testament, Death, Sepultura Album Title: Follow the Scars Release Date: December 17, 2021 Label: Self-Release Follow the Scars by Decerebration

New Promo: XHAMAIN - NA ALMA - Symphonic Folk Metal - @thebeast

Release Date: October 31, 2021 FFO: Nightwish, Epica, Eluveitie Location: Spain Label: SUSPIRIA RECORDS Currently, Xhamain is focused on the release of their new album Na Alma. This is the first part of a more extensive work already written in its entirety called No Ser. For this album, the Galician sextet has hired the prestigious mastering engineer Tony Lindgren ( Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Blind Guardian, Eluveitie ...) from the world-famous Swedish studios Fascination Street ( Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth, Sepultura, Moonspell ...). The cover design and all the artwork has been designed by the Bulgarian artist Georgi Georgiev from Moon Ring Design. This comes right after releasing the promotional video of the first single of the album, Soño de Inverno, which has been well received by the public. All of this is the pinnacle of a detailed process created through several years in which the band has been working hard since its inception. At the end of 2014, Rubén Alonso, a teacher at dZetta Music Center (official Rockschool Center), was commissioned by Mariah Fosado, a student at the center, to record and arrange a song she had composed. After several tests, and reaching an agreement on the stylistic part, they decided to create a band with more components and agreed on recruiting some of the most students in the academy. Anxo Jorge joined on guitar and Michelle Dopazo on bass. At the very beginning, Brais Jorge joined on drums, but after a few months, he was replaced by Alex García, who was also a student of dZetta Music Center. Xurxo Fernández, a well-known bagpipe player and teacher in the city, also joined the band as a bagpiper, and also contributed with his skills as a keyboard player. Having composed several songs for a couple of years, singing in Galician and still without releasing any album, Xhamain had their first performance in 2017 in front of more than 200 people, being headliners of a concert in which the group ArcangeluS also performed. A year later, they were invited, along with Aquelarre , to share the stage with Leo Jimenez's band in another great performance in front of 350 people. At that time, Anxo Jorge was no longer part of the band and had been replaced by David Zarandón. In 2019, after several unsuccessful recordings and not having achieved the level of quality that the band intended for their debut album, the group decided to take an indefinite break.  At that point, David Zarandón wasn’t already part of the band and had been replaced by Jairo Daponte. In early 2021, Rubén Alonso informed the band that he had achieved a mix with the sound the the band was looking for and proposed to return to the activity. In this new line-up, Xurxo and Jairo would no longer be in the band. This very same year the band signed up with Suspiria Records for the promotion, management and distribution of the album. New Promo: LIVLØST - Symphony of Flies - (Black Metal) - @thebeast

Release Date: September 17th, 2021  FFO: GEHENNA, TRELLDOM, RAGNAROK Location: Norway  "Symphony of Flies" is the third Livløst's album, the two Norwegians are playing an uncompromising, grimly dissonant and bewitched black metal with definitively sinister atmospheres. Often difficult, frequently nightmarish, this stuff easily ranks as one of Nordic lands' more challenging and oblique offerings. And for us, one of his most fascinating. With a mix of various Norse black metal traditions, atmospheric and mid-tempo practices, and a radical approach to traditional notions of extreme music in its truest sense, ‘Symphony of Flies’ is undoubtedly highly demanding of the listener. ...a dreamlike descent into the realm of death. Behemoth share final video from "In Absentia Dei" - @thebeast

When Poland's metal masters BEHEMOTH unleashed their livestream upon the world in 2020, they raised the bar to a new level, with one of the most ambitious, incendious, and blasphemic broadcasted shows throughout the pandemic. Never before had anyone tried to bring such a cinematic happening into one massive show that took place in an abandoned church in rural Poland, right during the darkest times of the pandemic lockdown. A year since the show's premiere, In Absentia Dei is still as epic as it was in September 2020 and returns in a range of deluxe formats for fans to relive the heretic chef d'oeuvre that took place on that fateful night. In Absentia Dei will is available in different formats here, including 2CD jewel case; 2CD/Blu-ray digibook; black/white melt vinyl (U.S. exclusive); gold/white melt vinyl (U.S. exclusive). In Absentia Dei will be available as digital album, digibook and 3xLP vinyl in various colors. All Metal Blade Records triple LPs come with a premium 20-page booklet. In addition, the band has unveiled another clip from the show. Watch "Slaves Shall Serve" here. "In Absentia Dei - one of two pandemic endeavors that we managed to accomplish," the band's Nergal states. "We set the bar so high and you were right there with us, legions. You can now recreate the magic of that night whilst we wait to reunite in person! Get your copy and join us, the lord shall not be present…" The show was said to set a new standard for streaming events in the future and this was something BEHEMOTH set out to achieve from the start. Produced by Grupa 13, In Absentia Dei was presented as a show of four parts, woven with high-production theatrics and even hellish flames emanating from all parts of the sacred building. BEHEMOTH released their latest full-length, I Loved You At Your Darkest, in 2018 to vast critical acclaim. The album marked a milestone in the history of the band, being not only their most successful album, but also an audiovisual masterpiece. From its detailed, blasphemous artwork, to the highly vicious, yet deeply emotional tracks, BEHEMOTH once again played with fire and ignited a wildfire burning the narrow-minded bigotry of Christianity down to the ground. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future. According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date. “The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.” “The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.” Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “AUM,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “AUM,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience, but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.” “It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.” The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes. “I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.” Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.” As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands. “We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.” Style: Extreme Technical Death Metal FFO: Beyond Creation, Necrophagist, The Faceless   Links: www.archspire.bandcamp.com www.facebook.com/Archspireband www.twitter.com/Archspireband www.instagram.com/archspireofficial www.youtube.com/user/Archspiremetal   Lineup: Oliver Rae Aleron: vocals Spencer Prewett: drums Dean Lamb: guitars Tobi Morelli: guitars Jared Smith: bass

SILHOUETTE premiere new track at Atmospheric Black Metal Albums - features ex-members of HORROR WITHIN, ETERNAL HUNT, GLUMURPHONEL - @thebeast

Today, French atmospheric black metallers  Silhouette  premiere the new track   "Au Seuil de l'Oubli"   at   the Atmospheric Black Metal Albums YouTube channel . The track is   the second to be revealed   from the band's highly anticipated debut album,  Les Retranchement , set for international release on January 28th, 2022 via  Antiq . Hear  Silhouette 's "Au Seuil de l'Oubli" in its entirety exclusively   HERE . Silhouette  is a French black metal band based in Montpellier and created by Achlys in 2019. Initially conceived as a one-man band, the project then involved more musicians in order to develop a synergy between clean female vocals and traditional black and DSBM vocals. Silhouette ’s view reflects dreams and visions about distant people whose shapes and intentions will stay obscure forever. Through soul’s dooms and mist,  Silhouette  deals with topics such as lost ones, fantomatic shapes from which only fragments and souvenirs remain. The band proposes a journey between intense melodies, storms, and velvet lulls to depict the travel of the one who dares to explore the places and ghosts of their past. Antiq  is a label dedicated to the fully coherent concept of making music through sound, image, video, and attitude. They have been putting their entire existence into it since 2009. Over the years,  Antiq  have been identified as producers of not only perfectly coherent lyrics and themes through music, but also conceptual art and, of course, the manufacturing of beautiful objects. The label tries as much as it can to work with French creators, and if possible, with the smallest and most serious structures.
